McDonald’s: A Hidden Fashion Brand

From burger boxes to exclusive merchandise

discover McDonald's unexpected journey into the world of fashion

As the king of fast-food restaurants, McDonald's is great at selling hamburgers. However, what might surprise you is that it has also dipped its toes into the fashion industry with remarkable success. Clothing with the iconic McDonald's logo has become a hit. A McDonald's burger box even has its value in the secondhand market. Here are some of the beloved fast-food chain's most notable fashion collaborations over the years.

McDonald’s x Travis Scott

In 2022, Travis Scott and McDonald's came out with a limited edition "Cactus Jack" $6 set meal, which featured a bacon burger curated by Travis Scott, accompanied by medium fries and a medium Sprite. However, it was not the contents of the meal that stole the spotlight, but the burger box itself. Surprisingly, the box became a coveted fashion item, which costs around $100-$150 in the secondhand market. Who would have thought that a hamburger box would become such a trendy fashion item?

McDonald’s x VAIN

VAIN, a brand founded by Finnish Helsinki artist Jimi Vain, launched an exclusive collaboration series with McDonald's. The series was made almost entirely from the restaurant chain's used staff uniforms. However, the collection was not for public sales, as it was an initiative to help support local McDonald's employees in Finland! This was VAIN's way of giving back to the dedicated employees of McDonald's. Sadly, we cannot buy these stylish pieces, but if you're ever in Finland, pop by McDonald's and have a look!

Mcdonald’s X Offset & Cardi B

McDonald's introduced the Cardi B & Offset Meal for two in February, in time for Valentine's Day this year, marking McDonald's first-ever couple's meal. Adding to the excitement, McDonald's also released a merch collection revolving around this special meal. The Cardi B & Offset Meal merch collection included a range of items such as hoodies, crewneck sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts, a trucker cap, and a beanie. These were priced between $38 and $68 (USD) and sold out rapidly, mainly due to the celebrity effect.

McDonald's x MOSCHINO

In a surprising collaboration that brought together fast food and high fashion, MOSCHINO creative director Jeremy Scott created a unique and attention-grabbing collection by parodying the McDonald's logo for his autumn/winter 2014 ready-to-wear collection. However, opinions within the fashion industry were divided regarding this design. Some saw it as a groundbreaking design, while others felt that incorporating McDonald's elements on the runway could create a misguided perception of high fashion.
