Best Neighborhoods For Shopping in Toronto

Need a little retail therapy?

These are the best places to check out in the city!

As we transition into the cooler seasons, our wardrobe will need a little updating—that’s a pretty good excuse to go shopping, right? Luckily, Toronto has an eclectic shopping culture, whether you’re into luxury brands or you’re more of a bang-for-your-buck kind of gal. Options are scattered across the city, depending on your preferences. If you’re in need of a little (or a lot) of retail therapy, these are the places to check out.

Bloor-Yorkville

This is the place to go to if you really want to test the limits of your credit card because this is where the big guns are. Names like Versace, Chanel, Christian Louboutin, and Balenciaga line the streets of this beautiful neighborhood, in addition to several high-end retailers, consignment shops and tailors. While you’re there, you can take a break at one of the many Italian bars and restaurants, put your shopping bags down for a bit and have a glass of wine.

Dundas Square

For those who prefer a traditional indoor mall experience, CF Toronto Eaton Centre in Dundas is home to many of your favorite fast fashion brands. You’ll find H&M, Zara, Uniqlo, Lululemon, Aritzia, Mango, and many more. There’s also Muji and Urban Outfitters within the Dundas area. Here’s a tip for you: make sure to check Eaton Centre’s “Offers” page on their website for all their ongoing promotions.

Kensington Market

Want to get away from the highly commercialized retail scene? Kensington Market is home to many thrift shops and vintage stores. This place is basically heaven for those who like finding one-of-a-kind pieces. Some of the well-reviewed thrift shops are Flamingo, Breathless, and Urban Catwalk. Mind you, there’s more to Kensington Market than just preloved clothing, so you might want to keep an open mind when shopping here.

Chinatown

Like Kensington Market, its equally vibrant neighbor, Chinatown is teeming with good deals for the frugal fashionista. This area is a great place to go shopping on a budget, with many shops selling cheap RTW and secondhand clothing. There are also several fabric stores, so if you’re planning to get something custom made, you can source materials here. Side note: it would be remiss of you not to treat yourself to a plate of steaming hot xiao long bao while you’re here.

Distillery District

Located east of downtown Toronto, the Distillery District is known for its stunning restored Victorian architecture and has become a frequented leisure destination for locals and tourists alike. Here, you’ll find many Canadian independent labels such as Maxime Zeaberg and their boho-chic frocks, specialty socks brand FloorPlay, head-turning shoes by John Fluevog, and sustainable athleisure by Peace Collective, to name a few.
