An afternoon at Blue Mountain!

Well worth the $34 price tag!

See what summer has in store at Canada’s most infamous ski resort.

If you have been living in Ontario long enough eventually you would have heard about Ontario’s most notorious ski resort, Blue Mountain. While Blue Mountain is especially popular for its hills of glowing white snow ripe for skiing , tubing and other winter wonderland activities, you’re probably less inclined to know about what happens at Blue Mountain during the summer. My family and I had recently gone on a camping trip, and in an act of spontaneity decided to take an evening trip to Blue Mountain. Was it worth it? Let’s find out.

Ridge Runner

The first thing my family tried was the Ridge Runner Mountain coaster. This ride alone was well worth the $34 price tag for admission alone. A belt takes you up to the highest point of the mountain and when you are there, you get to ride down the mountain taking in the beautiful scenery as you go. There are mechanical handles on either side of you that will allow you to control your speed. Don’t go too slow however, for you risk the embarrassment of the cart behind you catching up.

Timber Challenge Ropes course and Zip Lining

Now my family is far from the athletic type, so the high ropes course was definitely a challenge for us.  If you’ve got anyone in your crowd that has intense anxiety and isn’t very athletically adept, you might want to skip this attraction. Zip Lining was also a miss for us, as there was a terribly strong whiplash effect upon landing. The whiplash was so strong, my sister and I couldn’t even enjoy our ride down in fear of it. The Zip Lines definitely need a redesign.

Canopy Climb and Trampoline

Now this does have some rope and canopy climbing here and there, but nowhere near as challenging as the Ropes course. Plus the trampoline that you will come across at the end of the course was well worth it, as it brought out the inner kid in all of us. If you’ve got little ones in your crew. You definitely shouldn’t miss out on this.

Agora: Path of Light

To end the night my family decided to take a stroll at the top of the mountain to explore Agora, the Path of  lights display. Each section had beautiful displays of lights all designed to interact with the visitors to tell a heartwarming and intricate story. This attraction was built as a tribute to the original Indigenous peoples of the land;  through this attraction you will get a peek into their philosophy and way of life.

Conclusion

While some of the attractions ended up being a skip and some of them were closed, overall it was a very fun and experiential evening at Blue Mountain. There were definitely not enough activities to justify a week long stay, but definitely enough to end a camping trip on a bang. If you’ve got a squad of little, excitable adventurers in your crew, Blue Mountain’s summer activities are definitely worth checking out.
